M²: The Institute for Experiential Jewish Education’s mission is to promote a proud and inspired community of Jewish educators who possess the personal and professional capacities to help learners find meaning and relevance in Jewish life. We run a broad range of training programs for educators and provide educational consulting services to organizations. The educators and clients we support are primarily in North America, though M² has a growing presence in Israel and Europe. M²’s work is generously funded primarily from the US-based Jewish philanthropic world with some grants coming from Israel and Europe. Background

M² seeks to learn, grow, share, and make change in the field of experiential Jewish education. To help drive our growth, realize our mission, and manage our expansion, we are looking to hire an experienced Development Manager with superb writing skills.

POSITION OVERVIEW

As lead manager for grants, foundation relations, and individual donor cultivation, this person will research and write grant proposals and reports, identify new funding prospects, support the cultivation and stewardship of funders, manage donor communication, oversee related data management, and facilitate cross organizational collaboration as it relates to these tasks. As we begin to implement our 2024-2028 strategic plan, this team member joins the organization at a pivotal juncture and has the opportunity to significantly impact the organization’s ability to achieve its objectives through the attainment of philanthropic support.

Based in our Jerusalem office, this is a full-time position. The Development Manager will work closely with the Jerusalem based CEO and report to the COO.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Grant Writing (40%)

  • Write all grant reports and proposal narratives for review by CEO, ensuring that they are well-written, impact-driven, and tell a compelling story.
  • Draft correspondence, letters of inquiry, and other supporting documents adapting to the needs of each donor and prospect as needed.
  • Work with program and operations staff to capture relevant data on an ongoing basis, to inform grant reports and other development material.

 

Foundation and Individual Donor Relations (40%)

  • Identify, research, and cultivate new and lapsed foundation and individual donors, building a pipeline of new potential sources of institutional support.
  • Research and prepare materials for donor meetings.
  • Work in partnership with marketing staff to create and distribute communication materials for funders and prospects.
  • Join CEO on calls with relevant stakeholders, taking notes and managing action items and next steps.
  • Work closely with CEO planning and designing all aspects of fundraising trips – including strategically matching foundations/donors to projects, preparing supporting documents, organizing meeting notes and following up with next steps.
  • In the future, plan and execute stakeholder gatherings and site visits by collaborating with the program teams, as well as with stakeholders.

 

Grants and Data Management (20%)

  • Establish a cultivation process for foundation and donor outreach and solicitations, and proactively manage ongoing stewardship efforts for a portfolio of 15+ foundations, representing a grant cycle of $5M+ annually.
  • Master the use of the M²-customized Salesforce fundraising module for all grants management.
    Track grant cycles and donor engagement in an organized and streamlined manner — including coordination of proposal writing, reporting requirements, check-in meetings, and donor cultivation.
  • Enter and oversee grants and foundations data management in Salesforce and other internal systems, effectively capturing all communications and commitments.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

As a prerequisite, the candidate must believe in the values of M² and be driven by its mission, as well as have the following qualifications:

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience working in a development role. Grant writing experience is required.
  • Outstanding English writing capabilities with experience in foundation grant writing, as well as other writing styles (portfolio of writing samples will be requested as part of the screening process.
  • Excellent editing skills.
  • Superb ability to craft messages to a variety of audiences.
  • Familiarity with the US-based Jewish nonprofit and philanthropic landscape, and experience working with a wide range of donors, ranging from small, individual funders to large foundations.
  • A positive attitude, team spirit with excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities while consistently meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to complete projects with exceptional attention to detail and efficiency.
  • Action-oriented and flexible with the ability to work independently and collaborate with colleagues.
  • Familiarity with Salesforce, an advantage.
  • Flexibility to work evening hours, within reason to communicate and collaborate with our U.S. offices and funders.
  • Ability to handle confidential matters with integrity
