Crossroads Cards
Crossroads moments can feel uncertain, with no clear path or obvious choice. But the Talmud, a central text of Jewish law and ethics known for its rich discussions and debates, teaches that uncertainty can lead to clarity rather than confusion.
These moments force us to consider what matters most and make choices that prioritize one value at the expense of another.
Crossroads: Where Values Take Action
These cards invite you to engage with real-world dilemmas, wrestle with competing priorities, draw on wisdom from Jewish tradition, and navigate crossroads moments with intention.
They slow us down and help surface what matters most, instead of offering answers. Use them in classrooms, staff meetings, youth groups, Shabbat tables – anywhere people wrestle with uncertainty.
Crossroads: Israel Edition
Crossroads: Israel Edition places you inside real moments connected to Israel and Jewish life, when identity, responsibility, belonging, and values collide.
Each card invites reflection and conversation when there is no obvious path forward. Relevant for many settings, the cards are paired with an Israeli compass drawing on voices, texts, songs, and lived experience to surface tension and deepen discussion without prescribing what to think.
Each Crossroads card is designed to spark conversation and challenge you to think deeply about how your values shape your choices. Every card includes three key elements:
SCENARIO
A real-world dilemma that resultsin a moment of choice. Each scenario brings competing priorities into focus, shaped by the values we hold. Sometimes, our values come intotension, forcing us to prioritize one over another.
JEWISH COMPASS
Jewish texts or historical moments that bring the dilemma into focus. Each section presents two sources that highlight the tension, illustrating the precedent through Jewish wisdom, and offering insight into the competing values at play.
CORE QUESTION
A timeless question that highlights the core tension in the scenario. It extends beyond the specific situation, revealing how this dilemma plays out in different contexts and challenges you to reflect on the values that shape your choices.
Together, these three elements are designed to work in conversation with one another. The scenario draws you into the moment, the Jewish compass widens the lens, and the core question invites reflection.
THE CROSSROADS EXPERIENCE
When at a crossroads, we have to navigate many different parts of ourselves, our identity, relationships, responsibilities, and aspirations. The scenarios in these cards reflect that complexity. To help you engage more deeply, the cards are color-coded into four categories, each representing a different dimension of the personal experience:
Leadership cards spotlight challenges in decision-making when you’re in a position of authority, trust, or responsibility.
Community cards feature challenges that impact groups.
Relationships cards focus on decisions involving interpersonal dynamics.
Relationships cards focus on decisions involving interpersonal dynamics.
